You'll learn which import formats the Energy system designer supports (native KML and GeoTIFF; indirect DWG/DXF and SHP via KML conversion; tile services for basemap context) and their data types, supported objects, and limitations, plus an overview of the available export formats accessible through the File menu.

Available import formats

KML imports are performed directly within the Energy System Designer.

  • PV tables positions cannot be recognized

  • Polygon, polylines, and points can be converted in Evaluate to segments, buildings, restricted areas, restricted lines, or shading lines.

Tile service (URL)

Visual raster context

raster tile services e.g. GoogleMaps, Nasa Images, local cadasters

  • Zoom level 15 and 1

  • Services without authorization

  • Used for contextual basemap (e.g., satellite imagery or terrain shading)

.dwg / .dxf

  • Requires projection to WGS84 and export from QGIS or a similar tool.

Entire design layout distributed into logical layers, with object attributes preserved

Objects are organised by layer with attributes intact, so they can be selected, measured, labelled and edited. Coordinate reference system is selectable via EPSG code. All objects follow standard style defaults per type for consistent output across projects. Ready to open in AutoCAD or any compatible CAD tool.

🔁 Indirect (converted from .dxf)

CAD drawing

Same as .dxf — entire design layout in logical layers with attributes preserved

No direct DWG export. Export to .dxf first, then save as .dwg in AutoCAD or any compatible CAD tool. Layers, attributes and the selected coordinate reference system are retained through the conversion.
