Transformers and grid connection

You will learn how to add new inverter and power transformers to the design and configure their available parameters.

Adding transformers to the project

If your installation requires an additional inverter transformer or power transformer, you can add them manually to the design in the system design section.

  1. Open the three-dot menu.

  2. Select the transformer type you want to create.

After you create the transformer, it will be added to the system design, and its properties will show on the panel to the right. Once you connect it to the system, it will also be included in the simulation calculations.

General transformer settings

  • Position

  • Safe zone

The general section lets you adjust the transformer’s position and safe zone. To change its position:

  1. Select the transformer in the main menu.

  2. Activate the move tool on the 3D map.

  3. Move the transformer around with the mouse by clicking and holding the square that surrounds it.

  4. Save the position by pressing “Enter”.

You can also change its position manually by entering its GPS coordinates.

Transformer connection parameters

Available settings

  • Output voltage

The connection parameters section lets you change the default transformer output voltage. Switch to manual and enter the transformer's actual voltage output if that is required.

Adaptive connection

If the Inverter Transformer is the last component connected to the grid connection, its output voltage is adapted to that voltage.

If the grid connection voltage is above 35kV, a power transformer is automatically added to bridge that voltage gap. In this case, the Inverter transformer will adapt to automatically determined power transformer input voltage.

Grid connection voltage does not influence simulation. It is used only to automatically add/remove power transformers and set output voltages for inverters/power transformers.

Losses can be set to variable or constant. Each option has its configurable parameters.

Variable losses settings

You can change the default loss values according to the transformer parameters used in the installation:

  • Power rating - select between adaptive rating, manual rating, and apparent rated power.

  • No load losses - enter no-load losses value in kW.

  • Load losses - enter transformer load losses value in kW.

Description

Adaptive rating

Select for monitoring real-time load conditions and adjusting for cooling methods, allowing the transformer to optimize its performance dynamically.

Manual rating

Enter fixed value, which is predetermined by the manufacturer, to ensure the transformer operates within standard conditions.

Apparent rated power

Specify the value considering both active and reactive power, to accurately reflect the transformer's overall capability.

Constant losses settings

If you are aware of the transformer class used in the installation, you can switch to the constant losses model and apply the losses based on the transformer class rating.

  • Transformer class - select between the standard transformer, high-efficiency transformer, and custom losses.

Connecting inverter transformers to a power transformer

You can connect your inverter transformers to power transformers by following these steps:

  1. Select inverter transformer in system design section of main navigation menu.

  2. Select new power transformer in electrical layout section. Your inverter transformer will be connected and added to power transformer.

Interconnecting inverter setups with transformers

You can customize the connection of your arrays, inverter, and power transformers to achieve the required connection scheme by following these steps:

  1. Connect inverter setups to required inverter transformers.

  2. Connect inverter transformers to power transformers.

In example above, scenario allowed only one power and one inverter transformer with all arrays connected to it. The inverter transformer 2 and inverter setup B can be deleted.

The grid connection

The energy system designer offers three types of grid connection:

  • underground,

  • pole,

  • and station.

Pole and station graphics are offered for better visualization and perception of its space occupation. Additionally, you can adjust the connection’s position and customize the connection point parameters.

  1. Enter the coordinates if you know the exact position of the grid connection point and select its type.

  2. Alternatively, use the 3D map move tool to move the grid connection point around the map.

  3. Configure the connection parameters.

Connection parameter

Description

Power factor (cos phi)

Indicates the efficiency of power usage, showing the ratio of real power to apparent power in the system.

Power limit

Sets the maximum active power that can be exported to the grid from the inverter.

Number of AC phases

Specifies how many alternating current phases are used in the system.

Voltage

Defines the nominal voltage level at which the system operates.
