# Saving your PV design

**In this document**

We will explain how to save your designs in the Energy system designer.

## Energy system designed saving options

The Energy system designer (ESD) **does not automatically save your changes**. You must ensure to save them manually before leaving the Energy system designer to avoid losing any updates.

There are two locations where you can access the saving options - from the **File menu** in the top navigation of the ESD and via the **“Save”** button to the top right. Both contain the following options:

- **Save**: Saves the design without closing the ESD (Click the “Save” button).
- **Save and close**: Saves the design and exits the ESD (dropdown arrow next to the “Save” button).
- **Close**: Closes the ESD without saving any changes (dropdown arrow next to the “Save” button).

> **Note**: Automatic design [validation](/v1/docs/energy-system-validation)is performed when you save your work to ensure it complies with all ESD and electrical requirements.
