You'll learn how to use the Round timestamps tool to round every timestamp in a dataset to full seconds, covering both the data and the metadata: when you need it, how rounding is applied, and how to run it. Sub-second timestamps can prevent records from aligning correctly, so rounding them helps the quality control checks and the analysis tools work as expected.

Prerequisites

  • An active Solargis Analyst account.

  • Installed an Analyst desktop application.

  • An available dataset in the Solargis Analyst application.

Round timestamps

Some data loggers record timestamps with fractions of a second, for example 18:02:30.0450000. These sub-second values can prevent records from lining up with each other, which affects the quality control checks and the analysis tools. The Round timestamps tool rounds every timestamp in the selected dataset to full seconds, in both the dataset's data and its metadata.

Key points to remember:

  • Standard rounding is applied: fractions below half a second round down, and half a second or above rounds up.

  • Both the data and the metadata timestamps are rounded.

  • The changes are saved to the dataset immediately when you run the tool. Make sure you have selected the correct dataset before you start.

Note: You do not need this tool for data you are importing now - the dataset import can round the timestamps for you during import. Use the Round timestamps tool for datasets that are already in your project.

Rounding the timestamps

  1. Select the dataset in the main window.

  2. Open the tool from the main menu via Tools/Round timestamps.

  3. Check the Dataset name at the top of the dialog to confirm you are working with the dataset you intended.

  4. Click "Run and save" to round the timestamps and write the changes to the dataset. Use "Close" if you want to leave the dataset unchanged.

The dialog shows an example of how the rounding is applied, so you can see the effect before you run it:
