Managing access to projects

In this document

You will learn how to grant access to projects in your account and understand the conditions that apply when managing access levels.

Project access management

You can enhance collaboration across your company account by sharing your Prospect and Evaluate projects. Options include sharing them as read-only to allow others to view your projects, transferring ownership to grant editing rights to another user, or revoking access when it's no longer needed.

Your ability to manage project access is determined by your user role, and the actions you can take on a project depend on your access level. Additionally, when sharing projects, they must be within the same Solargis company account, and you must have access to the designated application for that project.

The following conditions also apply when sharing projects:

  • When you change the owner of a project, the previous owner automatically receives view-only access.

  • Admin users can manage access to all projects within the Solargis company account reagardless of their access status to those projects.

How to manage the project access

Project access is managed using the Manager access dialog, which can be accessed from multiple locations within the application.

Single project access:

  1. By clicking the access icon in the project list on the Projects page (Home, Prospect, and Evaluate).

  2. Using the three-dot project actions menu and selecting the “Manage access”.

  3. By selecting a project, then using the three-dot menu at the top of the page and choosing "Manage Access".

Multiple project access:

  • By selecting two or more projects, then using the three-dot menu at the top of the page and choosing "Manage Access".

The first icon in the Access column indicates the project owner.

Manage access dialog

You can manage access using the Manager access dialog as follows:

  1. Search the user you want to add by starting to type the user’s name.

  2. Click the “Add” button to add user to the access list.

  3. Select the access level for the user:

    • Can view: Read only access.

    • Owner: Will take ownership of the project and will be able to work on the project.

    • Remove access: Removes the user from the access list. User will no longer see the project in the project list.

The access settings are applied to the projects automatically everytime you make a change.

Sharing projects between applications

Your projects are made available to an application upon their creation. However, you can change it later if required and enable it in other supported applications. The most common case would be activating Prospect project in Evaluate to continue to work on it. Its best to do this from the account dashboard.

On the Home projects page, you can view the application’s project visibility in the Status column.

To open the project in different (supported) application:

  1. Open the three-dot project actions menu.

  2. Select “Open in…” and pick the application from the list.

You will be prompted to confirm the application project assignment in the dialog.

The project will behave like a new project in the assigned application, potentially requiring data processing, energy system creation, simulation execution, and other actions. Additionally, your account may incur charges based on the actions you perform on the project within the new application.

Additionally, you can assign project to an application using the project actions menu and selecting “Project properties”. You can activate/deactivate project visibility in the Applications category.
