Inverter conversion - How does Solargis compare
- Evaluate's Sandia inverter model, with full operating-envelope handling (voltage, current, and power limits plus MPPT window enforcement), sits alongside PVsyst as one of the two simulators that model this completely.
- The two give very similar results for well-characterized inverters in typical operation.
- pvlib's models clip AC output but do not enforce voltage or current windows.
- PVWatts is efficiency-only with no envelope modeling, and SolarFarmer treats the inverter as a hard on/off switch at its bounds rather than a graduated response.
Auxiliary losses - How does Solargis compare
- Evaluate models auxiliary consumption explicitly, splitting day and night loads, further separated into constant and proportional components.
- PVsyst is the only other simulator here with a matching auxiliary consumption model, also splitting day and night, constant and proportional.
- Prospect, SAM, and SolarFarmer do not model auxiliary loads at all in this comparison, per their own documentation.
- For plants with tracker drives, monitoring systems, or active cooling, omitting this loss — as three of the five simulators do — understates a real, quantifiable consumption.
