# Installing the Analyst application

**In this document**

We will explain how to install the Solargis Analyst application.

## Prerequisites

- You must have an active Solargis Analyst license.
- Your PC must operate on the Windows operating system and meet [minimum system requirements](/v1/docs/installing-the-analyst#minimum-system-requirements).
- You must be allowed to install .exe files onto your computer (no admin access required).

> [!WARNING]
> **Important**: Solargis Analyst is currently not availbale for Mac users. If you want to run it on Mac, you can use virtual machine.

## Downloading the installer

Solargis Analyst is a Windows desktop application and you can download the installer from the [Solargis Dashboard](https://apps.solargis.com/home/).

#### How to download the installer

Login to your account at [https://apps.solargis.com](https://apps.solargis.com) and proceed as follows:

1. Click the **Analyst card** to access the Analyst application downloader.
2. Download the installer to your PC.

## Installing the Analyst

Once you have downloaded the installer, you can proceed to install the application. Execute the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. It may take a while until the installer opens due to the installer size and Windows security checks. We can not speed this up, please be patient and avoid repetitive installer executions.

If you attempt installing to Program files, you will need admin access to the computer to proceed.

</editor360-custom-block>

Installation will take some time, depending on your computer, as it contains a demo project with a mock database. Once the installation completes, you can open the Analyst application.

## Firewall settings for Analyst

Before running Analyst for the first time, ensure that the application has permission to access the internet if prompted by your firewall. Internet access is necessary for the following reasons:

1. **Subscription validation (mandatory):** Analyst must verify your license or subscription status with the Solargis server.
2. **Software updates**: Internet access allows Analyst to check for and download any available updates to ensure you have the latest features and fixes.
3. **Data retrieval**: Access is required to obtain purchased data directly from the Solargis web service.

If a firewall prompt appears, allow the connection to ensure uninterrupted functionality of all key features.

I now have a clear picture of the article's structure and style. Here's the new section, written to fit naturally after "Installing the Analyst" and before "Firewall settings for Analyst":

## License validation

Before running Solargis Analyst for the first time, you need to verify that your license is active in the [Solargis apps portal](https://apps.solargis.com/).

To validate your license:

1. Sign in to the [Solargis apps portal](https://apps.solargis.com/). If you do not have an account yet, follow the instructions to [create one](https://solargis.com/docs/getting-started/create-an-account#getting-your-account-ready1659) and contact your company's Solargis account administrator to add you to the subscription.
2. Go to your [Dashboard](https://apps.solargis.com/dashboard/) and confirm that the **Solargis Analyst** tile is visible under your subscriptions.

> [!WARNING]
> **Important:** If the Solargis Analyst tile is not visible, contact [support@solargis.com](mailto:support@solargis.com) to activate your license — whether purchased or a free trial.

Once your license is confirmed, Analyst validates it automatically each time the application starts.

> [!TIP]
> **Note:** There is a limit on the number of users per subscription and the number of devices per user. If you encounter login issues related to these limits, refer to the [Analyst FAQ](https://kb.solargis.com/docs/en/analyst-help).

## Starting Analyst for the first time

Once the installation is complete and your license is validated, you can launch Solargis Analyst. Open the installation folder and run `analyst.exe`. The default installation path is `C:\Users\<user>\Analyst`.

> [!TIP]
> **Note:** Only one instance of Solargis Analyst can run at a time. If you start the application more than once, an error message appears for any additional instances.

#### Initialization phase

When the application starts, the Solargis Analyst logo is displayed while the application initializes. This phase may take a moment, particularly on the first launch. The splash screen can appear behind other active windows — check your taskbar if it does not appear in the foreground.

> [!TIP]
> **Note:** If the application configuration file is corrupted and cannot be read, a warning message is displayed. The corrupted file is automatically backed up and a new default configuration file is created.

#### Subscription and login verification

After the initialization phase, Analyst verifies your subscription status. If you have previously logged in and your subscription is valid, you are signed in automatically and the application proceeds to load.

If this is the first launch, or if the subscription verification does not pass, the login window appears.

#### Login

Enter the email address and password registered in the [Solargis apps portal](https://apps.solargis.com/).

> **Tip:** If you do not have an account yet, you can create one directly from the login window. Contact your company's Solargis account administrator to ensure your account is added to the subscription.

##### Proxy settings

If Solargis Analyst cannot connect to the internet, your network may require proxy configuration. Contact your network administrator to confirm whether a proxy is needed. To set it up, expand **Advanced settings** in the login window and enter the URL of your proxy server. Leaving the field empty means no proxy is used.

##### Testing the connection

If login is not working, use the **Test connection** button to verify that your network settings allow access to `api.solargis.com`. A confirmation message is displayed indicating whether the connection was successful or failed. If the connection fails, contact your IT department to allow access to `https://api.solargis.com:443`.

#### Selecting a company account

If your user account is associated with Solargis Analyst subscriptions in more than one company, you are prompted to select which company to log into after credentials are verified.

> [!TIP]
> **Note:** If a company is missing from the list, ask your account administrator to confirm that your user is active and that the company has a valid subscription.

#### Login summary

After a successful login, a summary page displays your account details — email address, company name, and host name. Click **Continue** to proceed with loading the application.

> **Tip:** You can review your current license agreement at any time via the [Solargis Analyst Dashboard](https://apps.solargis.com/).

#### Getting started window

The first time Solargis Analyst opens, the **Getting started** window is displayed. From here you can:

- Open an existing project.
- Open the Demo project to explore the application without affecting your own data.
- Create a new project.

To skip this window on future launches, select **Don't show me this dialog in the future**. You can also configure this behaviour at any time via the application settings.

#### Logging out

To log out and sign in as a different user, navigate to the main application menu and select **Logout**. You are redirected to the login window.
