The **Constraints** section in the Solargis Evaluate’s [Energy system designer](/v1/docs/energy-system-configurator-introduction#pv-energy-system-designer) collects every restricted area, restricted line, and shading line object present in the design. These represent areas the installation must avoid — rock formations, swamps, maintenance paths — or objects that cast shadows on it. You can access them in the **Site** section of the main navigation menu. This document covers managing constraints that already exist in the design. To draw new ones, see [Adding restricted areas and lines](/v1/docs/adding-restricted-areas) and [Adding shading objects](/v1/docs/adding-shading-objects). For the site's reference point parameters, see [Site properties](/v1/docs/site-properties), and for the elevation model, see [Terrain properties](/v1/docs/terrain-properties). ## The Constraints section Constraints are added to the design using the [interactive 3D map](/v1/docs/using-3d-map-and-drawing-tools) or by importing a [KML file](/v1/docs/imports-and-kml-files). Once they are in the design, the Constraints section lists them all in one place, so you can select, review, and edit any of them without hunting for it on the map. > **Tip**: For every constraint you can decide whether inverters should be installed there or not. This can be useful when some areas, like swamps, cannot have an electrical inverter while others, like maintenance routes, can. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/ae2d502f-6c0d-4865-a68e-43ad8da61149/Images/Documentation/image-1783684805649.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-16T21%3A27%3A27Z&se=2026-10-16T22%3A27%3A27Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=7BixNx3qJBhdTONyq8VbWchcy9oc%2BF8BJK8V42CqJEk%3D) ## Constraint options Every constraint can be edited through its options menu. Hover over the constraint with the mouse, and the **three-dot menu** will show. Click it to open the options menu. Every option has its own keyboard shortcut (indicated in the menu) to speed up the editing process. - **Rename**: Will rename the constraint. - **Show/hide**: Toggles the constraint outline visibility on/off. - **Edit vertices**: Will initiate the vertex-editing process. You can add, delete, or drag anchor points. Press Enter to confirm changes. - **Delete**: Will delete the object. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/ae2d502f-6c0d-4865-a68e-43ad8da61149/Images/Documentation/image-1783684819304.png?sv=2026-02-06&spr=https&st=2026-10-16T21%3A27%3A27Z&se=2026-10-16T22%3A27%3A27Z&sr=c&sp=r&sig=7BixNx3qJBhdTONyq8VbWchcy9oc%2BF8BJK8V42CqJEk%3D) ## Constraint properties Additionally, you can change every **constraint's properties**. The parameters differ based on their type and are located in the properties panel to the right. | Constraint type | Available properties | | --- | --- | | Restricted area | - Inverter units allowed/not allowed in the zone | | Restricted line | - Safe zone (in meters) - Inverter units allowed/not allowed in the zone | | Line object | - Height (in meters) - Albedo (constant or monthly) |
